Manufacturing Process of Palladium on Silica

Palladium on silica refers to palladium nanoparticles immobilized or deposited onto a silica support material. Silica, or silicon dioxide (SiO2), is an ideal support due to its high surface area, thermal stability, and chemical inertness. Palladium, a transition metal, is well-known for its exceptional catalytic properties, making it a valuable component in many catalytic systems. However, do you know the manufacturing process of the palladium on silica?

Manufacturing Process of Palladium on Silica

Pretreatment: If silica is not a directly available commercial product (such as nano or porous silica), it needs to be treated and dried.

Preparation of palladium precursor solution:

Dissolve palladium nitrate or palladium chloride in an appropriate solvent to form a uniform palladium precursor solution. The concentration of the solution is adjusted according to the required palladium loading.

Impregnation method for palladium loading:

Add the silica carrier to the palladium precursor solution and impregnate for a period of time (usually several hours to a day) to ensure that the palladium ions are evenly distributed on the silica surface. Ultrasonic treatment can be used to promote uniform distribution.

Drying:

Filter out the impregnated silica and dry it, usually at 100-120°C until the solvent is completely evaporated.

Reduction:

The dried sample is reduced in a reducing atmosphere. The common method is to place the sample in hydrogen, heat it to 200-400°C, and keep it warm for a period of time (1-4 hours) to reduce the palladium ions to metallic palladium.

Post-treatment (optional):

The reduced catalyst is passivated to prevent the palladium nanoparticles from being oxidized when exposed to air. A common method is to gradually cool it down to room temperature in dilute hydrogen (e.g. 5% H₂/95% N₂).

We are the professional palladium on silica manufacturer in China for 22+ years. And we also produce other catalysts such as palladium on carbon, Platinum on Carbon and Rhodium Carbon, etc. If you have any catalysts inquiry, please contact us.
